Will Labor be the first to take the environment really seriously?

Our PM has today finally got close to nailing the depth of the paradox about the carbon debate . How can we disagree with our institutions of applied scientific learning ".( she mentioned CSIRO, Met bureau etc) I mention that I treat their research ability as appreciated but with a grain of salt esp when it comes to Action .
Here's how to get a clue though ( more objective ? )
David Suzuki in his talk to "Environmentalism is failing" conference this week nailed it too - reductionism .

None of the institutions mentioned by Julia is fully over the subject of ACTION let alone THEORY . What they are over is the need for more research into their areas of reduced and distilled wisdom ( funded by the huge political imperative of new taxes ) The enemy within wants more time and more attention. Should they get it?
What the public need is a bit more big picture perspective. less fear , more research and less determinism driven by the drip feed reductionists and determinists- however high or quickfix like they rise in institutions focused on scientific research.
there is also safety in much advice . Andrew bolt has got it right . leaders falling on the sword of taking only one noisy movement seriuosly
Comments:
But would you believe it
they recognise the hour calls for science BUT the best they could do ( on lateline 17 march) was wheel out Garnaut and Garnaut . Not quite as bad as Gore and more Gore but just as unconvincing, and plainly hypocritical and off target, Science mate Science.

Well I have got to hand it to Tony Burke (Calling the cows back from the high country on Friday). the Libs won't get anywhere by acting in reaction to the conservation excesses of the left. ( julia was right to to state greens policies as extreme) The libs can only survive by defining their own unique brand of conservation competence and avoiding the impression they don't take it seriously with high country grazing . The thinking people of Australia rightly expect , not necessarily an EIS, but a clear commitment to careful research and review.
